1. Fall In Orlando
Do you ever feel like we miss out on the fall change of colors? We get our own version here in Central Florida, with several species of native wildflowers that bloom in bright shades of yellow pink, purple and red. Florida is home to many species of wildflowers that offer beautiful vibrant blooms. Our state name originates from the Spanish phrase Pascua Florida which translates as “Feast of Flowers”. While traveling to an assignment via the SR-417 toll road, I discovered fields full of Helianthus Angustifolius, commonly known as the swamp sunflower, near Lake Jesup. Swamp sunflowers are a perennial wildflower that bloom from September to October and range between 2-6 feet. They are commonly found in moist areas. I made note of the location and traveled back to the location to take photographs. Along the way, I also stopped to photograph other wildflowers found along the roadside. Next time you’re driving around, keep your eyes peeled for some of our native wildflowers. — Joshua C. Cruey, staff photographer Orlando Sentinel
